This is a little off our beat, but we’ll tie it in before the end. As you may or may not be aware, Councilfolk Bonin and Harris-Dawson have been running amok-inna-good-way out west of here, just planning to build all manner of golden goodies for the homeless population of what, forty years ago, was the best part of Los Angeles, which is to say, Venice. There’s the affordable housing project in the City parking lot, there’s the storage facility in Westminster Park, and we don’t know what-all else. Well, just tonight, in the Council file of the latter item, this little slab of Ryaveckian lunacy just hit the internets. Read it and weep for civilization, fellow Angelenos. This Ryavec fellow would be a funny guy if he weren’t a slavering psychopath.¹

You can read the thing yourself, of course. The upshot is that his lawyers² threaten everyone with lawsuits up the wazoo if they don’t go to the Coastal Commission, go to the Neighborhood Council, and so on. They cite Epstein v. HPOA³ wrongly, they cite a bunch of other laws, probably wrongly, and close with this idiotic bit of dazzledy-doo:

The Project has not been vetted with the community or the Venice Neighborhood Council even though approval thereof will undoubtedly substantially affect the owners of the adjacent residential neighborhood. As such its secret approval would constitute both a violation of the Brown Act and general due process.

Well, really guys, if there’s a council file for your letter to go into there’s no secret approval, is there? It’s up before the council, so so much for your Brown Act voodoo. Whyn’t ya move back to America and leave Venice alone, eh?
